About Me

I have a grown son and stepdaughter, both of whom attended Calvary Preschool. In fact, I was my stepdaughter's teacher! They both work in the medical field and I am quite proud of them! My husband and I met later in life when our kids were in high school and we are now empty nesters. I am "Grandma Kim" to my grandsons, Brayden who is in 2nd grade, and Cole who attends Calvary. They keep me on my toes and I love them dearly!

We enjoy spending time at our family cabin in the summer. The boys love to fish and I prefer to read or take a walk with my dog, Spanky. I believe that the best popcorn is made on the stove with REAL butter and that dark chocolate and power naps are among life's finer gifts!

My Experiences

I originally was licensed to teach Elementary school and thought I would still be able to teach curriculum in developmentally appropriate, fun, hands-on ways. I found out quite quickly that was not the case.  I wanted to teach children, not test them and gather data. It just seemed that the focus was on test scores rather than learning and that broke my heart.

I started teaching at Calvary Preschool in 1999.  I was so thrilled to be a part of this school because the whole focus was on connecting with kids and families, incorporating faith into our daily routines with prayer and Bible songs, building relationships, having fun and allowing them to be children—full of curiosity and excitement.

I left for a couple of years (life takes unexpected twists and turns) and taught in both public and private schools. Although I loved my students, something was missing. I missed my school family—the staff at Calvary has always been so supportive of one another. I missed the fun of watching kids paint, play dress up, make friends and discover new things about the world. In short, I missed the joy, so I went back.

The 2021-22 school year marks my 17th year as the Director. Initially, I never imagined myself anywhere but the classroom (which I do miss), but being the Director has been another adventure I wouldn’t trade for anything. I feel very fortunate to have been the part of so many childhoods and to have known and worked with the most amazing teachers you will ever find!

A Few of My Favorite Things

Favorite foods: Popcorn, Mexican food, Dark Chocolate
Favorite movies: "The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood," "Steel Magnolias" and most of the 1980's classics like  "The Breakfast Club."
Favorite Bible verse and why I like it:  "For we know all things work together for good to them that love God and are called according to His purpose."  Romans 8:28
I have stood on the truth of this verse through many of life's ups and downs. No matter how difficult the season I am in, I know that God will work it out in some way for His glory and purpose. It brings me a lot of hope and peace!
