I am a wife, mom, friend, follower of Jesus, international traveler, lover of historical-fiction, game fanatic, passionate educator, and advocate of inclusive learning.
Before coming to Calvary Preschool, I spent two years working in Elementary Reading Intervention and Special Education. I also spent five years teaching middle school in both Colorado Springs and Nairobi, Kenya.
As my children entered school, I missed teaching! I loved Calvary during my daughter's preschool years and was thrilled to have the opportunity to teach there! I love preschoolers' sense of wonder and their enthusiasm for the smallest joys of life! I also love the play-based, child-centered focus at Calvary and the sense of family among the staff.
During my eight years at Calvary Preschool, I have been a floating teacher, Assistant Teacher, Lead Teacher and then I moved into my current role as Staff Support Specialist. Each of these roles has had joys and challenges, but I love my current position, as I get to collaborate with all of the teachers and work with every age group. Highlights of my role include researching effective supports for specific kids' needs, observing and playing with kids, providing resources for play-based learning and process art, and assisting Kimberly with training and planning.
My favorite part of being a teacher is listening to children as they play--hearing their "a-ha!" moments, their problem solving with peers, and their brilliance as they explore new ideas!
I love sitting down with a child to read a book and soon having a small group listening and interacting!
There are so many funny moments and stories--I cannot pick just one!
